A great exchange of knowledge, questions, and insights. Those with an expertise in genomics made the complexities easy to understand. A very enjoyable evening.
Riveting topics, smart people, lively discussion, great venue. Loren Cobb's life and work are fascinating. The world needs more people like Loren... and more Future Meetups.
My first Boulder Future Salon meeting...
The good:
- Passionate group of articulate thinkers. Engaged and lively.
Opportunities for improvement:
- Most arrived late - I am no exception. Discussion got started late.
- Lacked structure. An informal agenda may have been useful.
- Talking out of turn is a problem. A few folks monopolizing the discussion.
- Balancing inquiry and advocacy. The keys to a good discussion are in understanding the position of the other person rather than just stating a counter position. I noticed a lot of that. Richer conversations may result from "walking up and down someone's ladder of inference" before stating a contrary position.
This was the best Future Salon that I have attended; both the
speaker and the temporary venue were better than usual and
the larger attendance made it more interesting.
the topic was interesting and everyone had something to offer which helped to establish a great energy around the table and allowed ideas to flow freely- we talked long into the evening and hardly noticed!
