Awareness of the Future, Awareness In the Future: Understanding Our Brain States

The Cup (map)

Selected By: Wayne Radinsky

For March, Michael Day will be presenting ideas from the neuroscientist James H. Austin.

To what degree can understanding our brain states - Wakefulness, Sleeping, Dreaming, Mindfulness or Attention/Focus - impact our ability to anticipate or influence the future? Research on these states shows the visceral experience we have is richer and less categorical than our present concepts suggest. Further, there is evidence that the underlying landscape of our brain activity can be deliberately shifted and the clarity and control we have in our experience can be impacted and improved. If we can sharpen our perception and awareness of reality and think more clearly about the possibilities contained our present circumstances, our ability to anticipate and influence the future should improve. As our understanding of the dynamics underlying our experience evolves with further research, our efficacy in creating and controlling our state of mind and our experience should improve.
