Brain Science and AI

This is a PAST event. See "Meeting Notes" section for audio, video, documents and other information.

Original event date/time: Friday March 24th, 2006, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

There are several exciting discoveries being made about how the brain works at the anatomical level. This discussion will cover how research is conducted and discoveries are made, and how this knowledge will be used for future AI systems.

Abstract:

Wayne Radinsky will be leading an informal talk on "Brain Science and AI" -- a review of recent discoveries in brain anatomy & function -- what parts of the brain do what. Did you know that scientists now know what part of the brain is responsible for sarcasm? Lying? Short-term memory loss? Determining what direction a smell comes from? Pain sensitivity? Alcoholism? Humor? Feeling fat? Stress? Regret?

Come to the Future Salon Friday, learn, ask questions, and explore what this flurry of brain research might mean for the future. What will it mean for society? What will it mean for medicine? And will all this brain research lead to faster development of AI?

This is a past event.
