Moving To The Solar Economy

This is a PAST event. See "Meeting Notes" section for audio, video, documents and other information.

Original event date/time: Friday September 28th, 2007, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

How Do We Get There From Here? With Richard Brenne -- Brrrp!!! Richard Brenne will be unable to make it to tonight's meeting.

Abstract:

The premise is that a fossil fuel economy is just not sustainable very far into the future, certainly not for centuries. The one fossil fuel that would last the longest, coal, is also the one that accelerates global warming the most. Burning much or most of the available coal could quite possibly make our planet unrecognizable to us. Obviously the energy source that fuels life and energy sources on earth and throughout the solar system is the sun. Thus the idea of a solar economy seems reasonable, but will require many scientific, technological and other breakthroughs. Basically we have to break a 450,000 year addiction to burning things (wood, coal, oil, gas, uranium) and change our thinking and behavior.

This is a past event.
